I’m currently preparing a collection of new landscape works for The Moree Gallery group show ‘An Artist’s Landscape’. I’m thrilled to be showing along side Ann Gordon, Rebecca Rath and Amanda Holman.

It’s wonderful to see elements of nature from our recent adventures popping into these paintings already. Textures, colours and marks all falling onto the canvas in a jumble. Hopefully they’ll come together soon as the show opens 31st March.

Burn

Burn Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: Thursday 1 — Saturday 17 December

Opening night:  Thursday, 1 Dec, 5 — 8 pm

7 Emma Street, Red Hill 4059

Opening night hours:

Opening night drinks on Thursday, 1 December, are from 5 — 8 pm.

From curator Laura Brinin:

“The annual Side Gallery end-of-year show is titled ‘Burn’ for the 2022 iteration, which will run from December 1 — 17.
The word Burn elicits subjective definitions and associations for the artists involved; to burn, to light fire, climate change, heat, colour, pain, repair, to seal or cauterise, thus heal, to long for, to ignite, scorch, char, to burn out, burn bright, burn the candle at both ends.
The message is to find a personal significance through a common term and produce work that can be attributed to the singular, no matter how far removed and subjective. “

Participating artists (in no particular order)

Catherine Parker, James Lyle, Liss Finney, Scott Owen, Matilda Michell, Harley Manifold, Giorgia Bel, Steve Salo, Lucila Zentner, Adam Galic, Clare Purser, Sergio Sill, Kate Nielsen, Alexandra Plim, Hiren Patel, Penny Verdich, Rhonda Campbell

About the show: from Robyn Williams, gallery director and curator:

“Landscape is at the heart of Australian culture. We have a history of inventing and reinventing the ways in which we look at and think about it. Today, with fires, floods and droughts dramatically reshaping our world, discussions about landscape become more urgent and conflicted. Artists find ways of reimagining it to fit their ideals or concerns. They use shapes and colours of the real or imagined landscape as a structural framework for paintings; often showcasing visible delight in imbuing the materiality of their paint with the unique light and character of the region.”

Gum Trees and Hot Concrete: Solo Exhibition

The Wellington Gallery presents Gum Trees and Hot Concrete- an exhibition of new abstract paintings by emerging Sydney artist Alexandra Plim.

Working from her home studio in the inner west of Sydney, where she lives with her young family and husband Tom, aka Hot Dub Time Machine, artist Alexandra Plim creates expressive abstract works, experimenting with mark making, colour and texture, drawing inspiration from our diverse and dramatic Australian landscape.

As the pandemic wreaked havoc on the arts and entertainment industry and school shut downs made painting time non-existent, I did not think having an exhibition this year would be possible! Somehow the paintings were still painted, be it in the middle of the night, and with some sensible restrictions galleries are still open! So here we are. I'm thrilled to be able to share this work with an audience of art lovers, especially as we are all so desperate to feel connected, inspired and uplifted.”

Gum Trees and Hot Concreteis about painting, finding some freedom amongst the chaos of city life, meditation, experimentation and good old fashioned play with paint.

The Tiny Art Show- Purple Noon Gallery

I am thrilled to be participating in this exhibition, online as it may be, it looks beautiful installed in Robyn’s gallery, and I truly proud of the little works I have hanging there.

This is an exhibition of little paintings and smaller ceramic totems. All paintings are 30 x 30 cms or less in size. And totems by Lisa Hoelzl are table versions, and smaller than her usually large freestanding pieces that many of you may have seen at the Botanical Gardens.

The catalogue is available and I encourage you to email:robyn@purplenoongallery.com.au for a copy. You can also download the online catalogue from the Purple Noon website.
